Neil Armstrong – RIP

August 25, 2012

A brave man that set new highs for human kind

One of the greatest acomplishments in human history was the historic landing on the Moon and that special moment when Man stepped onto its surface. I can still hear the crackles over the audio with fuzzy pictures and legendary words of Neil Armstrong saying “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. As an 8 year old boy at the time it still remains one of my oldest, most vivid memories. I also remember writing letters to Neil, Buzz and Michael (Class project) and receiving lots of photos, pennants, stickers and letters back. That moment in time really influenced me as a boy and the heroics of the crew set new highs. Indeed as a measure of the bravery involved at the time Neil is quoted as saying that he thought they had a 50% chance of landing on the moon.

Neil was also once asked how he felt knowing his footprints would likely stay on the moon’s surface for thousands of years. “I kind of hope that somebody goes up there one of these days and cleans them up,” he said.

The world has just lost one of the bravest men ever to walk the earth and whilst I mourn the loss I celebrate the man and his achievements. I hope you  join me.
