What ever happened to excellence?

Today’s blog entry is taken from my response to a post entitled ‘away from the numbers’ featured on the excellent blog http://www.arsenalism-wellyousaythat.blogspot.co.uk

Comment: I disagree that no one knows what will happen when the number this year increases to 32 because I do. The answer is absolutely nothing. Reason? The board love him and there is more then enough supporters to fan the delusions of achievement. In other words, Arsenal is a club that celebrates mediocrity, not excellence.

We have gone from Champions, Cup Winners, Double winners, Invincibles, Champions League finalists to 4th place Winners (sic) Bergkamp, Henry, Viera etc to Denilson, Eboue Diaby etc. We now claim to value 4th place higher then the FA Cup or League Cup. Logically, the next step will be to claim mid-table finishes, beating the Spuds, avoiding relegation battles as better than finishing in the bottom 3 and so forth, you get the picture.

As Thomas Jefferson once said ‘a revolution every now and then is a good thing’. To also paraphrase Michele Bachmann, (American politician-Rep’). We are at the point, of revolution, an orderly revolution — where the supporters of Arsenal wake up get up and make a decision that this is not going to happen on their watch…We can’t let Arsene and the board achieve their ends any longer.” Rise up Arsenal or in the words of Brother Bluto ‘LETS DO IT’.
